Bill Ross. Almost 20 years in marketing, three of them testing AI.
Bill is the founder of Emulent AI and the owner of Emulent Digital Marketing. He has worked in SEO, content and web strategy since the mid-2000s, for brands as large as Nissan and AT&T and for family businesses around Wake Forest, NC. Every Emulent AI client works with him directly.

Bill's story
A psychology degree, two agencies and a long habit of asking whether a tactic is worth doing before doing it.
Bill grew up curious about people and how things work. He studied psychology at Siena College in New York and graduated as the internet was becoming the main way companies reached customers. He went into digital marketing because he thought knowing how people decide would be an advantage there. It was. Most of what he does today still starts with the question of what the person on the other end of the screen wants.
After college Bill moved to Chicago and ran SEO for Encyclopedia.com and HighBeam Research, two content sites with millions of pages. That is where he learned the technical side of search at scale, and where he saw how much traffic good content brings in when the site underneath it is sound.
Over the next several years Bill worked at digital marketing agencies as the SEO lead on Fortune 500 accounts. His clients included Nissan, AT&T, Budweiser, Infiniti, Moen, HP and PwC.
The work was good. The way agencies ran it was not. Too many layers sat between the client and the person doing the work, and too much of the budget went to meetings about implementation instead of implementation. He started planning an agency that would run differently.
Bill started Linchpin SEO in Chicago in 2013 and later moved it to North Carolina. He hired SEO consultants, designers and content strategists he had worked with before and kept the company small on purpose. There were no long-term contracts; clients stayed because the work paid off. Every client could call Bill directly, which is still the rule today.
By 2023 the work had grown well past SEO, so Bill launched Emulent as the next version of Linchpin SEO. Emulent Digital Marketing does SEO, content, web design, brand strategy and video from its office in Wake Forest, NC, for clients across the Triangle and around the country.
When generative AI arrived, Bill did what he had done with every earlier change in search: he tested it on real test websites before recommending it. For close to three years he ran marketing tasks through the most widely used AI platforms, always on their newest models, and kept notes on what held up, what fell apart and what slowly hurt the brands that leaned on it too hard.
Emulent AI is what came out of those notes. It is a sub-brand of Emulent Digital Marketing that helps marketing teams decide where AI belongs in their work, set it up well and keep the parts of their marketing that customers trust. Bill also speaks on the subject, including his talk "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should," and runs hands-on AI workshops.
